Old and Modern New York

We can find some differences and similarities between de Old and Modern New York City. Some of the differences are:

Old New York

• Grew in importance as a trading port while under British rule.

Modern New York

• In the 80's the city reclaimed the role at the center of the world-wide financial industry.



• 90's, the crime rates dropped drastically.



• The outflow of population turned around, as the city once again became the destination not only of immigrants from around the world, but of many US citizens seeking to live a cosmopolitan life style.



• 90's success of the finantial services industry.



• NY is not now the capital, but is one of the most important cities in the US.



• Right now is one of the cities with the biggest proportion of foreigners being a multicultural place.



• Fashion and cosmopolitan center.



• After the world war II it becomes an important place of the art. The european artists came to the US, NY and start new artistics tendences.

Some of the similarities of old and modern NY, they 'open the doors' for everybody, they are a multicultural place where they have a lot of cultures and languages.
